About

Located within the historic walls of the Bank of England in Threadneedle Street, right in the heart of the City, this Museum explains the History of the Bank since its foundation in 1694 to the present day and its vital roles at the centre of the economy.

There’s something for everyone, with attractions including activity sheets for children of all ages, banknote jigsaws, a roller ball game, touch screens and the opportunity for some safe cracking! One of the Museum’s most popular exhibits allows visitors to take control of a virtual hot air balloon to learn about inflation.

The Museum is also the only place in the UK where you can handle a real gold bar, although, weighing 13kg, it will take many people by surprise!

The Museum runs especial events for all the family during school holidays, from storytellers to workshops, and it is a supporter of the Kids in Museums Manifesto.

Portable ramps give full wheelchair access to all areas of the Museum including of course the toilet for disabled visitors. However the ramps need to be put out so please contact in advance of your visit to ensure you are fully supported.

Wibbly Wobbly Weblink

It may be worth checking out Bank of England Museum's website to see if there are any special events or seasonal fun things to do that may be going on during the day.

We do strongly suggest you contact Bank of England Museum before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.

Good for c.45 mins

Nice little museum with friendly staff. Most of the exhibition went over the head of my 6 and 8 year old (explanations of inflation for example) though visualising the concept through games worked well. The video about gold and the vaults was good, lifting the gold bar was ok but inevitably disappointing for kids who wanted to carry it about. All in all a good museum for about 30-45 mins
